For the NWLL All-Star Games on May 24, Majors Division will play at 1:00 and AAA Division will play at 4:00. Both games are on Friendship Field #4.
For coaches in Majors and AAA Divisions, Little League has developed a Pitching Log for tracking pitch counts.
Due to wet field conditions, all T-Ball games and practices are cancelled for today.
The NWLL Board and Division Commissioners are reporting a terrific baseball season at all levels of play. Nevertheless, there are sometimes questions about parent behavior that come to our attention, and we want to take a moment to remind everyone about sportsmanship and what's expected of parents at games and practices. All parents are asked to review and follow the Parent Code of Conduct that you saw and agreed to during registration.

May 7, 2008 - Mid-Season

NWLL President, John Kostyack, has released a Sportsmanship Memo to NWLL Coaches (MS Word).
Here are Draft Rules on Sportsmanship and Game Play (MS Word). The NWLL board plans to consider and approve changes at a May 2008 board meeting. Input is solicited from all members of the NWLL community. Please send comments, questions and concerns to Bob Cumby.

Coaches in Majors and AAA are reminded to submit game results after each game. Division standings will be updated as information is provided.
Update on Pitching Rules: Although Little League International does not currently prohibit curveballs and other breaking pitches, the Northwest Washington Little League board has voted to do so. Members of the board looked into the question and reported that the medical evidence clearly shows that throwing breaking pitches is detrimental to young arms. Based on that evidence, the board believes that pitchers in our Majors and AAA divisions should not throw curveballs and other breaking pitches. The board will include this ban on curveballs and other breaking pitches in a revised version of our house rules to be approved at the May board meeting.

NWLL congratulates Emmanuel Burriss on his Major League Baseball debut with the San Francisco Giants. Growing up in Washington, DC, Emmanuel played baseball at NWLL for T-Ball through Majors and also at Woodrow Wilson High School.
Any player that missed the Aquafina Pitch, Hit & Run competition at Palisades Park is invited to the next local competition held this Sunday, May 4th, at Ludlow Taylor Elementary School (7th and G Streets, NE). A T-Ball player from each U.S. state will be selected to play in the White House South Lawn All Star Game. For all the details on how to submit an entry form, visit the Little League web site page. Entries must be postmarked no later than May 9, 2008.

Call to Action!
NWLL, together with Capital City Little League, D.C. Department of Parks and Recreation and the Greater Washington Sports Alliance Committee, is mobilizing to get 1,150 kids who have signed up to play baseball with the three Little Leagues east of Rock Creek Park outfitted for the new season. Their season begins in just two weeks! They need uniforms and equipment.

Congratulations to all who participated in the Aquafina Pitch, Hit & Run competition. The statistics have been compiled and here are the results (Adobe PDF). Awards will be distributed at NWLL games or by U.S. Mail. The All-Around Champion, Pitching Champion, Hitting Champion and Running Champion in each age group advance to sectionals.
