Who: The Northwest Washington Little League plans to again run its Summer Program in 2009. Hopefully, NWLL will form five teams – 9U, 10U, 11U, 12U, 13U, and 14U. The program is open to all players who are under the age of 15 as of May 1st, 2009. In addition, we will have a skills clinic and intramural games for players who are league age 8 or 9.
What: The teams will practice regularly, play in local area tournaments, and play non-tournament games with other DC area youth baseball organizations. Players of all ability levels are invited to every practice, and historically, almost everyone has played in a number of games throughout the summer. The coach of each team will select a team to compete in any given week from among the players present that week.
Where: Practices will be at Friendship Park or other local fields that NWLL commonly uses. Games will be played at various locations in the DC area. Some games will likely be at Friendship. Tournaments will generally involve some additional travel time and will be as far away as Bowie, MD.
When: Practices begin the week of June 8th and will be in the evenings to accommodate players attending day camps. The program continues through the end of July. Players do not need to be available every week in order to participate. We expect the composition of the teams to change over time depending on player availability. That said, we need to be able to count on a player actually being available during the weeks indicated. If you indicate you are available, you MUST be actually be available at that time. To be assured of a spot, we must receive your registration by June 1st. The best bet is to plan your vacations for August!
Coaching: Northwest Washington Little League has had great success in the past with professional coaches we have recruited to work with our players in the summer.
Cost: The registration fee and coaching contribution is $225 and will cover uniforms and tournament fees as well as umpires and field preparation for games played at Friendship. As always, NWLL is committed to providing all players wanting to play with the opportunity to do so regardless of financial circumstances. We will provide fee waivers for those would like to play and would otherwise not be able to do so.
