Northwest Washington Little League Summer Program

Registration is now open for the NWLL Summer Program. The program will run from June 14th to July 30th. The first practice and general informational meeting will be June 14th at 5PM at Friendship Park. The program is open to children between the ages of 7 and 14, with the relevant age being their age on May 1st of this year.

We recognize that we provide a rewarding baseball experience to kids of all ability levels throughout the year, and remain committed to that goal in the summer. We accomplish this in the summer by running parallel programs for players of all abilities. First, on Mondays and Wednesdays from 5 to 7 PM, all players will attend a baseball skills combine that will be run by Coach Pete Robinson, the varsity baseball coach at Georgetown Day school. The combine will rotate players through numerous skills stations, and focus on giving each player a large number of repetitions. In addition, players will be divided up into age groups, U9, U10, U11, U12,and U14. Each age group has been assigned a specific coach, and that coach will organize age-specific practices that will also be open to all registrants. After the first week, the coaches will select a subset of those players in each age group to be "regulars" on the tournament teams, and another subset will be selected as "alternates". The tournament teams will play in several area tournaments this summer, with the games generally taking place on weekends. The alternates will be assigned to a recreational team that will have games that will generally be on Friday nights. Both the recreational and tournament games will be "kid pitch."

We do not ask players to commit to being present for the entire summer, and plan to accommodate the normal comings and goings of kids during school vacations. Because of this, the age group alternates are often asked to help out the tournament teams some weeks of the summer. In the past, a very high percentage of our older players have been able to play in at least a few tournament games.

Games will be played at various locations in the DC area. Some games will likely be at Friendship. Tournaments will generally involve some additional travel time and will be as far away as Bowie, MD.

Finally, later in the summer, NWLL will be sponsoring a U10 and a U12 all-star team that will enter the Little League championship tournament. These teams will be selected from among those players who wish to play and participated in our spring season according to the selection criteria detailed in this document. Players must be at least 9 years old to be eligible for the U10 team.

It is not necessary to participate in the summer program to be eligible to play on either of these teams, and participation in the summer program does not guarantee a spot on the DC tournament roster.

The registration fee and coaching contribution is $275 for those who sign up before June 1st, and will rise to $300 thereafter. The fee will cover uniforms and tournament fees as well as umpires and field preparation for games played at Friendship. As always, NWLL is committed to providing all players wanting to play with the opportunity to do so regardless of financial circumstances. We will provide fee waivers for those would like to play and would otherwise not be able to do so.

Please register online.
