The Northwest Washington Little League is looking forward to its Summer Program again this year. We recognize that we provide a rewarding baseball experience to kids of all ability levels throughout the year, and remain committed to that goal in the summer. We accomplish this in the summer by running parallel programs for players of all abilities. In one, we sponsor teams that play against all-star teams from other leagues at area summer tournaments. On the other track, we sponsor skills clinics and intramural games that resemble our traditional recreational offerings, but with a higher commitment to intensive skill development. The program is open to all players who are under the age of 15 and at least 8 years of age as of May 1st, 2011.
We hope to form six summer tournament teams: 8U, 9U, 10U, 11U, 12U, and 14U.
Tryouts for these teams will be Sunday, May 15, at Friendship Park
8U and 9U 12:00-1:30 pm
9U, 10U, 11U, 12U 2pm-4pm on fields 1,2, and 4
In addition, we will have a summer recreational program that will include skills clinics on Mondays and Wednesdays and intramural games on Fridays for players who choose not to try out for or are not selected to the tournament teams. The program will be run by NWLL skills director and former professional player Brian McKenna. The latter program is open to all players league age 8 and above.
Finally, later in the summer, NWLL will be sponsoring a U10 and a U12 all-star team that will enter the DC Little League championship. These teams will be selected from among those players who wish to play and participated in our Spring season according the selection criteria detailed in this document: http://www.littleleague.org/Assets/forms_pubs/tournaments/TournRules_BB.pdf. We will circle back with more information on the Little League championship teams near the end of the Spring season. It is not necessary to participate in the summer program to be eligible to play on either of these teams, and participation in the summer program or selection to the U10, U11 or U12 tournament team does not guarantee a spot on the DC tournament roster.
Full registration will open the week after tryouts. The registration fee and coaching contribution will be $350 for those chosen for the tournament teams. The registration fee for the summer rec program will be $125. As always, NWLL is committed to providing all players wanting to play with the opportunity to do so regardless of financial circumstances. We will provide fee waivers for those would like to play and would otherwise not be able to do so. If you are interested in the combine/rec program, tryouts are not necessary, however we would ask that you register as soon as possible so that we can gauge the interest level at each age group and provide the appropriate staffing.
